LEADERSHIP, CLARIFIED. March 2022

Emotional intelligence has been central to my work for many years. It was part of my graduate school studies more than twenty years ago. Emerging from that area of study is my passion for supporting leaders to develop empathy. In particular, over the last two years, I have seen organizations and leaders focus on empathy and building empathy in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and racial injustice and inequities. Leading with empathy is making a difference for their teams and organizations.

I am currently reading a book on empathy that has lessons for home and work - even though it is focused on raising empathetic children. Unselfie has morsels of wisdom for all of us, regardless of age, about the power of empathy. Investing time to understand another person's hopes, motivations, and interests is foundational to strong relationships at home and at work. If you decide to read it, let me know what you learned!
